The Young and the Restless recap for July 29 featured Cane dealing with the aftermath of Carter’s violent breakdown, Amanda urging him to regroup, and Lily shutting the door on him for good. Claire told Kyle about her father’s death and prepared a quiet memorial with her mother. Nate learned that his brother Damian was murdered and reeled from the shock.

Cane Refuses to Let Go

Cane (Billy Flynn) sat in the surveillance room, still in shock, reliving the shooting that ended in bloodshed. Amanda (Mishael Morgan) stopped by to check on him. The police had concluded their investigation, backed up by the surveillance footage, and she assured him he was in the clear. But Cane didn’t feel that way. Jill lost her grandson, and he couldn’t stop blaming himself.

Amanda reminded him he had been good to Carter (Vincent Stalba). None of this was his fault. He disagreed. Everything had gone wrong. But Amanda urged him to focus on the future—the dynamics had shifted, but the goals hadn’t. She warned him that his enemies were circling, but Cane wasn’t intimidated. He pointed out how close they came to breaking Nikki.

Amanda countered that the whole plan had imploded, and they needed to rethink everything. Cane insisted they were capable of pulling something off—he still believed they could achieve something big. If Amanda wanted to walk, he’d understand. She didn’t. “I’ll stay,” she told him. Once she left, Cane trashed his desk.

Later, Cane found Lily (Christel Khalil) in her car before she could leave. He wanted to apologize. She didn’t want to hear it. He said he’d be haunted forever by what happened and promised to make things right—even with Nate. Lily couldn’t believe he still planned to return to Genoa City. She called him a manipulator and pointed out that he’d destroyed any trust they had. There was no coming back from this. “Until we meet again,” he said. She begged him to stay gone.

Claire Prepares to Say Goodbye

Claire (Hayley Erin) was shocked when Kyle (Michael Mealor) finally called. He explained everything—the train, the murders, the truth about Cane. Their phones had been useless, and they were trapped. Claire was stunned. Kyle asked about her father. She went quiet, then admitted Cole (J. Eddie Peck) had died.

7 People Reacted

Kyle was heartbroken and promised he’d be home soon. They’d get through this together.

Victoria (Amelia Heinle) told Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) that Cole was gone, and Nikki encouraged them not to wait for a memorial. They could say goodbye on their own. Claire agreed—but not without Kyle.

Nate (Sean Dominic) arrived to offer support. He’d heard about the train. When Claire suggested postponing the memorial until Kyle could be there, Nate agreed. No one should say goodbye alone.

Nate Hears the Worst

Lily called Nate and asked him to step outside. She didn’t want to say it over the phone, but there was no choice—Damian (Jermaine Rivers) was dead. Nate was stunned. He asked if it was an accident. Lily told him the truth. Carter had murdered him. He saw Damian as a threat and killed him to clear the way for Cane.

Nate could hardly process any of it. Lily asked him to tell Amy (Valarie Pettiford) before she heard it from someone else. Nate promised he would—even though he knew it would crush her.

He returned inside and broke the news. Damian was murdered. Victoria and Claire urged him to stay and grieve with them. He worried about Amy. Damian had helped her heal, and now she’d have to grieve him, too.

Blame and Regret Fill the Train

Back on the stranded train, the guests tried to process everything. Jack (Peter Bergman) was livid. He blamed Cane and his ego. Diane (Susan Walters) pointed out how off Carter had seemed. Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) disagreed—Cane shouldn’t get all the blame. Billy (Jason Thompson) sided with her, but Jack was unwavering. Chance (Conner Floyd) died because of Cane. And Jill and Nina would be devastated.

Billy admitted Jill (Jess Walton) would probably blame him, too. Jack offered to make the call, but Billy said it should come from Cane. Meanwhile, Diane and Audra (Zuleyka Silver) sniped at each other. Audra moved on to Sally (Courtney Hope), and they read Cane’s welcome note again—this whole plan had backfired, and they still didn’t know what he was up to.

Kyle arrived and shared that Cole had passed away

Old Tensions Rise Again

Billy reminded Phyllis of an offer he made before everything exploded. She reminded him how he’d already let her down—twice. Jack overheard, asked what was going on, and ended up in another round of bickering with Billy. Billy said things had to change when they got back. Jack agreed. After he walked off, Billy told Phyllis they’d talk when they were home safe.

Audra and Sally agreed they had plenty to say—just not on that train. Kyle confronted Audra and accused her of dragging him into disaster. She insisted she hadn’t lost Vibrante yet, but Kyle warned her: Victor doesn’t tolerate failure.
