Herrmann is already feeling the regret of his Chicago Fire season 13 finale decision
We could see some of the way Herrmann’s story was going in Chicago Fire season 13. Despite Boden wanting him to become Chief, he realized that it wasn’t the job that he wanted. However, I don’t think any of us really expected him to demote himself so that Mouch could become Engine 81’s Lieutenant.
Well, that’s the way it all played out in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale, and this puts a lot of pressure on Herrmann now. There are budget cuts coming, and that often means people are let go from their jobs, especially with firehouses closing around the city. Is it possible that Herrmann is now on the firing line?
Possibly, but it’s probably not that that’s causing Herrmann’s regret in Chicago Fire season 14. There is more at play with this decision.
Herrmann struggles to relinquish his office in Chicago Fire season 14
The synopsis for the Chicago Fire season 14 is out, and for the most part, there is focus on the new team member joining the series. Of course, this is going to change the dynamic of the show as a whole. We’re losing three beloved members of the team, and we’re gaining one we don’t yet know.
However, the end of the synopsis makes it clear that Herrmann is regretting some of his decision to step down as Captain at the end of Chicago Fire season 13. He will struggle to let go of his office to Mouch.
This is understandable. If you remember well, then you’ll know Herrmann put hard work into creating this office space, as it used to be a storage unit. It never made sense why there were only two cubicles considering there were three positions for lieutenant at the firehouse, but I digress. Herrmann put the work in to create the office, and now he has to go back to the bullpen.
But it’s not just that. It’s the fact that he’s also relinquishing power and authority. He knew that he would need to, but there’s a difference in thinking about how it will feel and feeling how it actually feels. Now it’s all very real for him, and he’s not sure how to manage it.
Herrmann and Mouch’s friendship may struggle
On top of that, Herrmann is going to go through a personal crisis that’s much worse than anything he’s been through before. It’s hard to imagine what could be worse than Cindy’s cancer, and my fear is that something will happen to one of his kids. So, mixed with that and relinquishing power, it’s not surprising that things are going to be off for a while.
