General Hospital welcomed Maxie back as Kirsten Storms returned after her hiatus. Get the details about how it unfolded!

On the Thursday, February 12 episode of General Hospital, the show said “hello again” to one of its longest-running players, Kirsten Storms, who took a long hiatus from the show but has finally returned as Maxie after being absent from the canvas since August 2025. Her character has been lingering in a coma for months, but her family was in for a welcome surprise when she emerged from her medical slumber — looking remarkably spry, in that “only-in-soaps” kinda way that fans know so well! Here’s how it all unfolded.

At the start of the episode, Felicia sat at Maxie’s bedside with Maxie’s older kids, Georgie (Lily Fisher) and James (Gary James Fuller). Felicia noted that Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) had gone off to a bakery to fetch treats, and James showed off the Valentines that he and Maxie’s youngest tot, Bailey Lou (who was back in Port Charles), had drawn for Maxie. Georgie observed that Maxie couldn’t see the cards, but James insisted that she could. “I believe that your mom knows that we’re here and that we love her,” Felicia assured.

James finished decorating the room for the holiday, and Georgie completed manicuring her mom’s nails. Felicia suggested that she and Georgie leave to give James some time alone at Maxie’s bedside. After his grandmother and sister stepped out, the boy updated his mother on his latest trip to the ER and declared her to be his valentine. “I love you the best,” he told her.

Out in the hallway, Georgie opened up to Felicia about how difficult it was for her when James acted like their mom was going to answer him. “All I want is for her to open her eyes,” she lamented, tearfully adding, “I just miss her so much.” “So do I,” concurred Felicia. Felicia told Georgie that Maxie loved them and was fighting as hard as she could to get back to them. Georgie nodded and curled up in her grandmother’s loving embrace.

After informing Maxie that he’d just started playing hockey (“Don’t you want to see me play?”), James traded places with his big sister. Weeping, Georgie threw herself on top of her mom, pleading with her to wake up, while in the corridor, James noted to Felicia that his friends at school wanted to meet “his real dad,” meaning Nathan (Ryan Paevey), his biological father, who had been presumed dead until the previous fall. “Not that Spinelli isn’t my real dad, too,” James added. Felicia told him she knew what he meant, and Georgie soon joined them out in the hall. “Your turn, Grandma,” she chirped. Felicia shot a look at her mischievous grandson, who promised he would stay put. “Don’t worry, I’ll watch him,” promised Georgie.

The Mother Lode
Felicia reentered Maxie’s room and fought back tears as she took her daughter’s hand in her own. Doing her best to stay strong, Felicia told Maxie how well the kids were doing, explaining that Bailey Lou stayed with Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard) while the rest of the family was in Boston. She spoke of all the pictures she’d taken of Georgie, James and Bailey Lou and said she couldn’t wait to show them to Maxie when she woke up. “I make sure they have fun and they have plenty of things to look forward to,” Felicia noted, adding that even as she and Spinelli did their best to keep the kids on their regular schedule, “there’s still this giant hole in our family where you’re supposed to be.” She voiced how much they all loved her. “As your mom, I have seen you do impossible things your entire life,” she declared. “So I know you can do this, too.” She planted a kiss on her daughter’s forehead, unaware of the power of her words…

When they action resumed, Felicia, James and Georgie put on their coats as they prepared to head back to the airport. James put in a request to hit the ice rink first, while Georgie wanted to go to a new bookstore. Felicia proposed to that they go to the bookstore this time around, but visit the rink the next time they were in Boston. James sulked and pleaded with Georgie, “Please let me skate.”

“James Malcolm West,” came a stern and familiar voice. “You are not going skating without a helmet.” Huge smiles spread over Georgie and James’s faces as they took in the sight before them, and Felicia whipped her head around at the sound of her daughter’s voice. Maxie stood in the doorway, very much awake!

Back in Port Charles, Nathan — the man who had been Maxie’s husband before his apparent death in 2018 — was with Lulu (Alexa Havins), Maxie’s best friend. The pair had been growing much closer in recent months, and at the end of last month, they shared a kiss. After their smooch, they agreed that they couldn’t pursue their feelings for each other … but those feelings proved quite difficult to resist. Unaware of the miracle taking place in Boston, their lips met again….
