Tomorrow night, a special episode of Emmerdale will air that looks at April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) and Dawn Taylor’s (Olivia Bromley) current storylines.

April is currently embroiled in a horrifying situation that’s seen her dealing drugs for a man called Ray Walters (Joe Absolom).

After a drop went wrong, April started paying off the money she owed Ray. Unbeknownst to her, Ray orchestrated the situation that saw her lose the bag of drugs, all so he could pull her further into the drugs ring and prevent her from leaving.

For her next assignment, April will be taken to a hotel by Ray. She’s told to give some cocaine directly to a client, and then accept his offer when he mentions drinks.

April does just this, but is thrown when the man ends up pouring out some vodka.

The instalment will depict April’s desperate struggle for survival, as she attempts to escape the jeopardy she’s found herself in once more.

In the village, Dawn will open up about her own traumatic past, drawing poignant parallels to April’s current predicament.

Dawn is prompted to reflect on her past as she continues to try and protect her young daughter Clemmie. A few days ago, Dawn discovered that Clemmie had sent an indecent image to another boy in her class, which was then sent along to multiple children.

Dawn has clashed with Carl’s mum Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) throughout this. Nicola believes that Clemmie is mostly to blame for the situation, whereas Dawn can see that her daughter sent the image because society has led her to believe that’s how you interest someone.

Earlier in the week, Dawn discovered from Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) that the group chat from school had set up a poll that sexualises Clemmie, who is only 10.

Can’t wait for the next twist?

Horrified that the world her children are growing up in is still so dark, Dawn discusses her history with Joe and what a vulnerable position she was in growing up.

These scenes airing alongside April’s will serve as a reminder of the constant cycles of vulnerability and the importance of fighting for a better future.

‘This episode is really important because Dawn didn’t have a stable family or homelife, which she explains to Joe in this episode, and you can really see how she got herself into such a difficult situation for so many years’, star Olivia Bromley said.

‘But what’s interesting with April is, she has such a wonderful family, and the world really is her oyster – she’s got a stable, loving home, she’s at school, and yet she’s still managed to go down this path.’

Revealing how her character would react if she found out what April is going through, Olivia added: ‘She would just want to scoop her up and tell her to get out of there because she’s lived it. Dawn lived it in an interesting way from a perspective of not having a stable family or home life and living on the streets with her boyfriend.

‘She explains a lot to Joe about this, and you see how Dawn got herself into such a difficult situation for so many years, when actually now she’s quite accomplished, she’s got a smart head on her, she’s a good mother, she’s empathetic. Yes, she’s made mistakes and is flawed like everyone is, but ultimately she’s got a good heart.

‘But then we see what’s happening with April, who’s got a wonderful family. The world’s her oyster, she’s in a stable, loving home, she’s at school – and yet she’s still managed to go down this path.

‘It’s interesting the toxic influences that children can come across. You think everybody’s safe and they’re not.’
