Emmerdale to explore Claudette’s tragic past as storylines collide
Emmerdale is set to explore Claudette Anderson’s tragic backstory and the loss of her brother following the Liam Cavanagh storyline. The ITV soap has recently been exploring the topic of prostate cancer amid a health scare for Liam, with fears he has the disease.
Claudette was the one to flag to Liam that he should get checked out, notably as he struggled to hold his urine in – though he was initially reluctant to get tested.

After agreeing to do something about the concerning symptoms, Liam learned from his results this week that he likely doesn’t have prostate cancer.
Following on from these scenes next Monday and Tuesday, Liam launches a campaign to raise awareness of the disease. Amid this, Claudette opens up about her own history after losing her brother to prostate cancer.
Meanwhile, at a surgery meeting, Claudette learns that Charles has been lying about getting tested every couple of years, leaving her angry.

Previously opening up about the cancer storyline, Liam actor Jonny McPherson noted its aim to highlight how men of a certain generation are reluctant to get checked.
“My generation and the generation above are very poor at getting stuff sorted out,” he told Lorraine.
“Especially as a doctor – he’s constantly giving advice [that] if anyone feels the slightest niggle or concern, then they should get it checked out. Then he is obviously feeling all these things.

“I guess as well, as a doctor, you detect symptoms and you have a multiplicity of possibilities. So maybe he’s just painted himself into a corner slightly.
“With men, there is definitely a tendency of kicking the can down the road: ‘It’ll be alright. Ah, it’ll pass’,” he added.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
