Emmerdale fans thrilled by upcoming Robert special as trailer drops
Emmerdale fans are very much looking forward to the upcoming drama involving Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley).
The beloved character returned earlier this year to try and stop Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) from marrying John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth). At the time, Robert revealed to Aaron that he’d been released from prison following an appeal.
His visit to the village saw Robert break the rules of his bail conditions, which meant he was placed back inside for a brief period. He did his time and was then freed, and has been in the Dales ever since.
Robert was heavily involved in John’s storyline throughout the summer, which meant we haven’t learnt a lot about his time in prison. We know that his imprisonment has given Robert PTSD, but we don’t know a great deal about what he went through each day.
That’s all set to change soon, as ITV soap Emmerdale has confirmed a special episode will air that explores Robert’s time in prison.

As we rewind and visit his prison ordeal, a spokesperson for the show has teased the drama we are in for, saying: ‘We will take a reflective look behind the bars of Robert’s recent incarceration.
‘What did happen when he got sent down for six years? And has it changed this man forever?’.
Two other instalments will look at April Windsor’s (Amelia Flanagan) ordeal with Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), and we will finally learn where Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) has been ever since he left the village.
Confirmation that we will finally discover what happened to Robert while behind bars has left fans very intrigued.
Taking to social media platform X, Liv wrote: ‘Oh these are going to be SO good !! And thank goodness we are actually going to explore Robert’s time in prison. Ryan Hawley and Chris Coghill are going to be INCREDIBLE. can’t wait.’

Fellow Robron fan Kerry said: ‘I am SO PLEASED we are getting an episode to do with Robert’s time in prison and what he went through. Thank you ED. We’ve been waiting/hoping for this. Here’s hoping Robert opens up to Aaron about what he experienced. Ryan will smash it!!.
Another account echoed the excitement and said: ‘Really looking forward to the Robert in prison episode.’
But before this, Robert will face more trouble with Aaron and Kev (Chris Coghill).
It was revealed a few weeks ago that Robert met Kev while in prison. In order to protect himself from the men who were constantly attacking him for his sexuality, Robert began a relationship with Kev, who worked hard to keep Robert safe.
The two characters are married, but Aaron doesn’t know about this.
A new trailer, released this week, has confirmed Kev will chat to Aaron outside the café. Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) introduces Kev as Robert’s friend, and the look on Aaron’s face suggests this is the first time his name has been mentioned.

The teaser also sees Robert confessing to Aaron that he loves him. They share a kiss, but this is paired alongside some scenes that see a worried Kev asking if he has anything to worry about – and Robert telling him that he doesn’t.
Awks.
We know that Aaron will discover Kev and Robert’s relationship due to seeing them kiss outside the pub.
But what will follow next?
‘He’s a big obstacle and something very different and volatile’, star Ryan Hawley said when discussing Kev.
‘Dangerous not in a calculated way like John was. Unhinged and unpredictable, in a reactionary kind of way. He’s something very different. Also he’s redeemable, you kind of feel sorry for him.
‘You don’t want to break his heart – I don’t think Robert wants to break his heart. Robert doesn’t want to betray Kev, Robert has deep feelings for him that aren’t just of gratitude, they’re very complicated.’
