Emmerdale airs dead body twist as John flees in early ITVX release

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
Caleb Miligan (William Ash) has helped John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) go on the run in Emmerdale.
John has been out of hospital hiding from everyone ever since the truth about him was revealed. The villagers discovered from the likes of Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) that he killed Nate Robinson, but also orchestrated some deadly events that put plenty of other people in danger.
John has a hero complex, which meant he constantly craved approval from others. If that meant putting someone’s life on the line just to save them seconds later – so be it.
On a few occasions though, John’s plans didn’t work out as he intended. He administered medication to Nate which led to his death, and then held Mackenzie hostage for weeks after shooting him with a bow and arrow.
Yesterday, Caleb helped his brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) with a revenge plan, which involved Caleb tricking John into thinking he was going to drive him to Rotterdam and let him escape.
Caleb drove the vehicle into the woods and then confronted John with a shotgun. He made it clear that he had no intention of putting a bullet in his brain though – but his brother did.
With the weapon in hand, Cain unleashed his anger towards John. He was struggling to accept that John had supported the family in the aftermath of Nate’s murder, all while trying to cover up his involvement at the same time.

Sitting in the van, waiting for the gun to go off, Caleb suddenly had a change of heart and realised he does have a moral compass after all. He raced through the woods and tried to prevent Cain from making a massive mistake.
The instalment ended with Caleb, Cain and John arguing and the gun going off. In the latest episode, it was quickly confirmed no-one had been shot.
In an unexpected twist, Caleb prevented Cain from committing murder by attacking him with a shovel. Bit extreme if you ask us, but Caleb needed to do something to buy him and John some time without being interrupted.
They shoved Cain in the boot of his car and then drove to the border. The plan was to get to Rotterdam, Caleb would go to a service station and during that period, John would escape the van and create a new life elsewhere.
The two characters were very nearly caught out when officers decided to conduct a routine check on Caleb’s truck. In the clear due to John hiding under a sheet, Caleb got back behind the wheel and drive off.
Can’t wait for the next twist?

Just before the credits rolled, John and Caleb were de-briefing. He thanked Caleb for the help, and then handed him a piece of paper, which revealed where Anthony’s body is really buried.
Anthony Fox was killed by his daughter Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) earlier this year. At first, Aaron believed he had committed the crime due to attacking Anthony at the depot, but Ruby had arrived while Aaron wasn’t there and finished things off.
In the aftermath, John disposed of the body, but it was announced months later that he had lied about where he dug the grave. Because focus has been on John, Aaron and Mackenzie recently, the Anthony strand of the story hasn’t really been in the spotlight.
