Bridget Moynahan to Join Donnie Wahlberg in Blue Bloods Spinoff Boston Blue Premiere: ‘Reunited and It Feels So Good’

Moynahan will make a special guest appearance as Erin Reagan in the premiere and will also direct an upcoming episode of the spinoff

Bridget Moynahan is officially coming back as Erin Reagan for the premiere episode of Donnie Wahlberg’s spinoff series, Boston Blue.

CBS announced the news on Friday, July 18, revealing that Moynahan will make a special guest appearance in the first episode. The actress will also direct an episode of the spinoff’s first season.

Wahlberg delighted fans with the news of Moynahan’s return as he shared a selfie from set.

“Reunited and it feels so good!” Wahlberg, 55, captioned an Instagram selfie of him smiling with Moynahan, 54, on set of Boston Blue.

“So excited to have my dear friend, and TV sister @bridgetmoynahan, join me for a special guest appearance in the premiere episode of #BostonBlue!”

“She’ll also be bringing her incredible directing talents to the show this season!” Wahlberg wrote.

He also teased fans that there are even “more fun (and surprises) to come. 👀 ” as the show begins production. “Let’s go! 💙❤️”

Boston Blue kicked off production earlier this month — seven months after the Blue Bloods finale aired.

On July 8, Wahlberg shared a photo to his Instagram Stories from the first table read for the spinoff.

“A new chapter 💙,” he wrote over a picture of the pilot script. He also tagged his costar, Sonequa Martin-Green, who was sitting across from him, and will play his partner, Detective Lena Silver, at the Boston PD.

Along with Martin-Green and Wahlberg, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Gloria Reuben and Ernie Hudson fill out the ensemble.

Mika Amonsen has also been cast as Wahlberg’s on-screen son, Sean Reagan, replacing Andrew Terraciano, who played Sean in all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods.

Moynahan previously said that saying goodbye to her Blue Bloods “family” was an emotional experience.

Weeks before they wrapped filming on the final season of Blue Bloods, Wahlberg and Moynahan stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show, and Wahlberg admitted that the cast felt “more upset and sad” than “happy and satiated” about the show ending.

“I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters,” Moynahan said of the emotions on set. “We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew — most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We’ve been through it all with each other.”

She also praised Wahlberg as her “biggest supporter” on set, and he said she’s “phenomenal.”

Boston Blue premieres Friday, October 17 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
