‘Boston Blue’ Shows Danny and Baez Solving 1st Case as a Couple After His Partner Switch

Donnie Wahlberg‘s new CBS series Boston Blue is bringing Marisa Ramirez back for a full episode amid Danny and Baez’s blossoming romance.

CBS released promotional photos from the Friday, November 21, episode of the Blue Bloods spinoff, which showed Baez (Ramirez) and Danny (Wahlberg) working on a case together. According to the official synopsis, the episode follows Danny and Lena’s (Sonequa Martin-Green) hunt for a serial home invader, which includes an assist from Baez.

Ramirez, 48, has already had brief cameos in two episodes of the Blue Bloods spinoff. Before tuning in to watch Danny solve crimes in Boston, most of Us saw his journey on Blue Bloods, which ran from 2010 to 2024. When viewers last saw Danny on Blue Bloods, he was contemplating making a romantic move on his professional partner Baez.

The series premiere of Boston Blue, which aired in October, confirmed that Danny took the first step — and it paid off. But with his move to Boston, some fans were worried about him making it work with Baez, who remained in New York.

Blue Bloods’ Danny Reagan and Maria Baez’s Relationship Timeline: From Partners to Love Interests

“I would say I would have Danny Reagan walk right into his next chapter of his life, maybe in a different place doing a similar job and perhaps with someone from the current cast,” Wahlberg, 56, told Entertainment Weekly in December 2024 about his vision for Danny. “But I want him to not be too far from the family so that he could still see them and spend time with them, but maybe to see what life has in store for him now that his boys have gone off and he’s empty nesting and his wife’s gone. Maybe he can see what the future holds for him on his own. As long as he can visit the family sometimes. Does that sound like a tease for a spinoff?”

Despite no longer working with Baez on cases, Danny found himself another case partner in Lena.

“[Their connection] starts with an investigation that Lena’s working on, and Danny is allowed to help her due to the circumstance,” Wahlberg told TV Insider in September. “It’s a phenomenal partnership, partially because they are both detectives from police families and it develops pretty quickly.”

He added: “They have this common thread where they can actually help each other and give each other perspective.”

As Danny finds his new normal, viewers might not have to get used to limited appearances from Baez. Ramirez recently teased her future on the show, exclusively telling Us Weekly, “You should always worry about long-distance. You never know what’s gonna happen. Always worry.”

Ramirez expressed that Baez and daughter Elena “could move to Boston, no problem,” if there was interest.

“To me, it’s not that fun to watch such a happy couple. It’s fun when there’s ups and downs and arguments and kind of getting back together,” she explained. “It’s more fun to watch kind of turmoil in relationships, because it makes it that much sweeter when it works out and they get together.”

According to Ramirez, fans can expect “a little bit of push and pull and back and forth until something does happen” to make them find a better solution.

“I would hope she’s gonna be in more than just one scene out of this whole season, right?” she teased. “I just think that you’re honestly just gonna have to watch. But still be worried about the long-distance thing working out or not working out.”
