‘Blue Bloods’ Spinoff Ordered at CBS as Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan Heads to Boston P.D.

The “Blue Bloods” universe is officially expanding. A spinoff following Donnie Wahlberg‘s Danny Reagan has landed a straight-to-series order at CBS. “Boston Blue” (working title) comes from “S.W.A.T.” writers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis and will follow Raegan in a new position — not in New York but at Boston P.D.

There, he will be partnered with Detective Lena Peters, “the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

“The Gray Areas” – Danny and Baez investigate the death of a rising MMA fighter. Also, Eddie and Jamie race to find Badillo, whose job is on the line after he’s caught smoking weed; Frank is blindsided when Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) asks the Governor to send in the National Guard to help patrol the subway system; and Erin is determined to prove the innocence of a mock trial competition winner who is arrested for drug possession, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Nov. 22 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. “It’s going to be a very delicate dance to keep that integrity. Where’s the family going to be? They can’t be in New York. I would probably drive to New York from Ohio, if I was Danny, to go to every dinner and back,” Wahlberg told Variety of his character. “Until we know that there’s absolutely no way this show can be resurrected somehow, I think we’re all walking forward… but taking a peek back.”

“Blue Bloods” aired 275 episodes from 2010 to 2014, with Tom Selleck leading as the family patriarch and Police Commissioner Frank Reagan. Along with Wahlberg, the series starred Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, Vanessa Ray, Abigail Hawk, Len Cariou, Gregory Jbara and Steve Schirripa.

“Boston Blue” is produced by CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television. Sonnier and Margolis will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed and Wahlberg will also executive produce.
