“There’ll Always Be a Reagan a Phone Call Away”: Donnie Wahlberg Teases Potential ‘Blue Bloods’ Reunion in ‘Boston Blue’
During its 14-season run, Blue Bloods remained a procedural a bit different from the others. Yes, it focused on the weekly cases worked by the NYPD, but at its very core, it was a show about family. The CBS series followed Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan, who is carrying on the long-running tradition of holding a position in law enforcement — a career trajectory that his children Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), Jamie (Will Estes), and Erin (Bridget Moynahan) have also pursued. After the well-performing title received the axe last year, it was announced that Frank’s eldest son, Wahlberg’s Danny, would receive his own spin-off titled Boston Blue.
Since its very first reveal, fans have wondered who, if any, familiar faces might cross over to meet up with Danny on his next adventure. While speaking with Fox News Digital, Wahlberg gave an incredibly promising update for those hoping for a Reagan family reunion down the line.
“Now, it’s just Danny going to this new world, but I can’t say a lot about it — but I could say, if he’s a Reagan, it will never be just Danny. There’ll always be a Reagan a phone call away. And the traditions that the Reagans have, Danny wouldn’t abandon those traditions.”

As for his experience in the original series, Wahlberg says that, quite like fans, he and the rest of the cast and crew were just as shocked that the TV show — which was one of the network’s top performers — wasn’t picked up for Season 15. Sharing that he and the other folks involved “fought so hard” to keep the show on the air, the actor also admitted that he was “in denial” about ending things, adding, “When it ended, we thought, ‘Okay, some of the network’s gonna come and say, let’s keep going.’ And nobody came, and it was kind of like we were all in denial about it,” he said about Blue Bloods.
